PETAN STRONGLY OPPOSES REPEAL OF THE NOGICD ACT.

The Chairman, Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), Mr. Nicolas Odinuwe has strongly opposed any action to repeal the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act.


 He made the position known during the virtual consultative summit organised by the National Assembly to discuss the Nigerian Content Development and Enforcement Bill 2020 and the Nigerian Content Development and Enforcement Commission Bill 2020 in September, 2020.
His words: “The new bill will kill the geese that laid the egg and that is unacceptable as it does not sound well if we destroy a functioning Act to welcome one of which we are uncertain of its effective implementation”.
The summit comprised contributions from keynote speakers and panellists including the Executive Governor of Nassarawa state, His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Wabote, the Distinguished Chairman, Senate Committee On Local Content – Senator Teslim K. Folarin(OFR), the Honourable Chairman, Local Content Committee Of The House Of Representatives, Hon Legor Idagbo, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Uwasi Idris.
Others were the Honourable Minister for Petroleum Resources, Minister Timipre Sylva, the Honourable Justice of National Industrial Court, Honourable Justice Nelson Ogbuanya, the Vice Chairman of OPTS, Mr. Jeff Ewing, Representative of Shell, Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor, the Managing Director of NLNG, Mr. Tony Attah, Honourable Henry Waba and Distinguished Senator Chris Ekpeyong.
