CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
My deep appreciation to PETAN members for their support in upholding to the vision of the association. The interactions with each other has not only enhanced the quality of services delivery, but has boosted the business ethics to attract international recognition.
In the quarter under review, the executives of the Manufacturers and Traders Bank of USA under the auspices of Export Import Bank visited PETAN and held very useful business meeting with members. PETAN Secretariat also hosted the Commercial Attaché of the United States of America in Nigeria, in a meeting designed to improve partnering of the association with American businesses. PETAN exhibited in Offshore Technology Conference OTC in Houston Texas, where a meeting coordinated by the famous Houston Congress Woman, Sheila Jackson Lee, was held with the African-American Business Caucus. PETAN participation in these activities is commendable irrespective of the economic depression in Nigeria.
PETAN is conscious of her role in reviving the Nigerian Economy as a techno-economic group, using the Local Content drive as the hub of the association's strategies. Local Content means the quantum of composite value added to, or created in the Nigeria economy through a deliberate utilization of Nigeria human and material resources and services in the upstream and downstream sectors of the Nigeria Petroleum Industry, which includes all activities connected with the exploration, development, exploitation, processing, transportation and sales of Nigerian crude oil and gas resources, without compromising quality, health, safety and environmental standards. A Bill for an Act to make Provisions for the Local Content is under consideration. PETAN is looking forward to the passage of the Bill, which will provide the truly indigenous passion in Nigerian techno-economic business.
